For USC Students

The Viterbi School of Engineering encourages students at all levels to get involved with K-12 outreach through VAST.

Outreach 

• First steps: The best first step is to review a summary of existing K-12 programs at Viterbi. Students are encouraged to get in touch with the contacts for any of those programs. Students should also check if Viterbi has a relevant student organization that could involve K-23 students (e.g., the Robotics Club).
• Undergraduates and MS students should contact Larry Lim.
• PhD students interested in working with K-12 teachers should look into the GK-12 program and the RET Site program and discuss with their PhD advisor.

Service Learning

Service learning combines formal instruction with service in the community. Graduate and undergraduate students at Viterbi can participate in diverse service learning activities.

• Course-Related Service Learning Projects: Create instructional materials that can be used by teachers interested in infusing engineering research in their K-12 curriculum.
• LA Engineers as Teachers Program: Partner with LA area teachers to teach engineering and science lessons to local elementary and middle school students.
• USC Chapter of Engineers Without Borders: Partner with developing communities to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economical engineering projects.
